Class Description
Pattern Making & Sewing 1: The Fundamentals Pattern making is where creativity meets technical design. It is the process of translating measurements and design ideas into patterns that shape fabric into wearable garments. Through flat pattern making, students learn to draft, refine, and adapt patterns to achieve the fit and silhouette they envision. In this introductory course at AARK Studio, students will learn the fundamentals of flat pattern making, take accurate body measurements, and draft a basic skirt sloper—a foundational pattern used to develop a variety of skirt designs. They will then explore how to use their drafted pattern to cut and sew a wearable garment. Designed for beginners, this course offers a relaxed and supportive environment to develop practical skills, understand garment construction, and build confidence in the art and technique of fashion design. No prior experience is required. Total: 6 sessions Materials: All materials will be provided. Bring a friend or sibling: Receive $10 off tuition for both participants. Join us at AARK Studio to begin your journey into the art and craft of pattern making and garment design. Note: There is no class on Nov 25th due to Thanksgiving weekend. The Pattern Making Series at AARK Studio Pattern making is a journey of understanding how two-dimensional patterns translate into three-dimensional garments. At AARK Studio, our progressive pattern-making series introduces students to the essential building blocks of garment design through hands-on drafting, fitting, and sewing. The series is planned as a 3–4 part learning journey, with each course focusing on a different foundational sloper: Bodice Sloper: Drafting the front and back bodice to understand fit and shape. Skirt Sloper: Learning the fundamentals of skirt drafting and developing variations. Sleeve Sloper: Understanding sleeve construction, shape, and fit. Putting It All Together: Applying the three foundational slopers to develop and create a garment. Each course builds on essential pattern-making principles, helping students develop the technical foundation to translate their fashion ideas into wearable designs. Students can grow their skills progressively, with the final project bringing their learning together through a complete garment. Class groupings and instruction may be adjusted based on enrollment to create a supportive learning experience for everyone.
